Treatment options for a gastric outlet obstruction
With a malignant tumor of the pancreas, the duodenum can become narrowed. There are various treatment options to create a new passage for food and gastric juices. With these 3 illustrations I have shown 3 different options. A new passage through surgery (gastroenterostomy), restoring the passage by placing a stent (hollow tube) through the narrowing (duodenal stent placement), and creating a new passage by placing a stent between the stomach and small intestine (endoscopic gastroenterostomy).
